Elevate Your PD Facilitation
Description
Wednesday, July 17, 2024
9 am - 12 pm, followed by a networking lunch from 12-1 pm
Have you ever had the experience of sitting through a mandatory professional development that felt like a bad use of your time? Unfortunately, many teachers experience poor quality professional development (PD) on a regular basis. A great deal of research exists on the characteristics of effective PD. Drawing on the research and on our own experience, this workshop will explore the basic principles behind engaging, effective, and inspirational PD.
In this workshop, we will model concrete strategies that you can apply to your own PD facilitation. You will participate in active learning, reflection, and discussion with fellow professional development providers. You will leave with a deeper understanding of what goes into good PD, a handful of strategies you can use right away in your PD facilitation, and the inspiration to continue growing your practice. We will also share a suite of free resources you can use to keep building your PD facilitation expertise.
After the interactive morning session, we will end with an optional networking lunch. Stay to connect with colleagues in similar roles, continue discussing ideas around best practices for professional development, and learn more about ways to strengthen your facilitation practice!
This workshop is designed for anyone who facilitates professional learning for teachers (such as TOSAs, department heads, administrators, CBOs, and any other PD facilitators). While our focus is on science PD, most of the workshop will be applicable to any subject area.
